Easy Access to our Mailing List

Mailing lists are a quick and easy way to follow or participate in discussions. Unfortunately the growth of spam and the volume of email generally have made many members unwilling to use our Rotary discussion list. That is unfortunate as it probably has better access to experienced Rotary officers than any other service provided through the ICUFR, with authoritative answers to current issues. This article will show you how to get the most out of the mailing list with the minimum of effort.

First you need to sign up if you haven't already done so. Click here and edit the 'To:' address of the email that appears, replacing ' at ' with '@' (a spam precaution). Now click 'Send' and sit back. You will get a welcome email with the address of your personal settings page and a password. There is other information, such as how to leave the list, but hopefully you won't need that.

Once registered you will get a trickle - occasionally a stream - of emails from the list. You manage them by adjusting your personal settings at the server and by setting up your email client to handle them.

At The Server - use a web browser to visit your personal settings page and log in with your email address and password from the welcome email. You can choose one of three options:
a) Receive each posting when it is sent to the server (the default).
b) Receive a 'Digest' - one email containing all the postings sent to the server each day.
c) Receive NO postings - and instead visit the archives to read the postings sorted by thread or date.

You can also change your email address and set other options, for example whether you want a monthly reminder of your password to be mailed to you.

At Your Email Client - create a folder to receive emails from the mailing list. Then add a 'rule' or 'filter' to move emails with '[Rotary]' in the subject from the 'Inbox' to the mailing list folder. Tips on how to do this for a number of popular browsers can be found here:

Whilst you are doing this remember that if any contributor or subject irritates you (possibly a certain club's newsletter?) add additional rules to delete those postings. You'll never know they were there!

Now whenever you want to catch up on the discussions open the folder containing the mailing list and sort them by subject, date or thread (if your email client offers this). Remember you don't have to read the list every day, if you set things up properly you won't miss anything when you have a moment to catch up on the hot topics.
